Aims & Results

The stated aims of this Standard Genealogical Search were as follows:

Examine the Marriage Register for the Roman Catholic Parish of Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, for the marriage of John Corrigan to Judith Pallen or Partlan[d] in 1800.
Search for the Baptismal Records of the issues of the marriage of John Corrigan and Judith Pallen or Partlan[d] between 1807 and 1815 and 1821 to 1830.
Search for the Burial Records for all Corrigans and Pallen/Partlan[d]s between 1800 and 1833/4, especially the burial of John Corrigan on 9th September 1829.
Examine the Tithe Applotment Books for the Civil Parishes of St. Feighin’s, St. Mary’s, Kilcunny and Kilpatrick, in order to identify to the Corrigan family’s landholding prior to their emigration.

The results of our research have been poor. While we did locate the Marriage Record for John Corrigan and Judith Parland, between 1807 and 1815 and 1821 and 1830, we located the Baptismal Record for only one child to have issued from this marriage, namely Michael in 1809. An examination of the Collinstown Burial Register between 1800 and 1814 and 1821 and 1834 noted the burial records for only six individuals named Parland and four named Corrigan, including on 9th December 1829, John Corrigan of Johnstown. At the time of the submission of the Tithe Applotment Books for the Civil Parishes of St. Feighin’s, St. Mary’s, Kilcunny and Kilpatrick, Co. Westmeath, there were no tithe payers residing in the parishes by the name of Corrigan.

The results of our research are detailed in the report below.

Parish Records

We began our Standard Genealogical Search on the Corrigan and Parland families by examining the Marriage Register for the Roman Catholic Parish of Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, for the Marriage Record of John Corrigan and Judith Pallen/Partlan[d].

Marriage of John Corrigan & Judith Parland, 10th June 1800

We located the Marriage Record for John Corrigan and Judith Parland in 1800 and this read as follows:

Married on 10th June 1800, John Corrigan to Jud. Parland. Richard Fagan and Mary Aylmer stood as witnesses to the marriage.

Issues of John Corrigan & Judith Parland Feb. 1807-April 1815 & Mar. 1821-Sept. 1829

We examined the Baptismal Registers for the Roman Catholic Parish of Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, from February 1807 until April 1815 and from March 1821 until September 1829 for the Baptismal Records of the of the issues of the marriage of John Corrigan and Judith Parland. During the periods our search we located only one relevant Baptismal Record, which read as follows:

Baptised on 4th October 1809, Michael Corrigan, the son of John and Judith Parland. John and Catherine Corrigan stood as Michael’s sponsors.

The location of the Baptismal Records for the remaining children from the marriage of John Corrigan and Judith Parland, especially Philip, Matthew and Patrick, is not known, but would appear to be in a parish other than Collinstown.

During our examination of the Collinstown Baptismal Registers we noted the Baptismal Records of children issuing from three further Corrigan marriages, namely Connor and Mary Corrigan; Patrick Corrigan and Marcella Levy; Thomas Corrigan and Mary Murtagh.

Burial Register 1800-1814 & 1821-1834

We examined the Burial Register for the Roman Catholic Parish of Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, from 1800 to 1814 and from 1821 to 1834. This search elicited the following Corrigan and Parland Burial Records:

Corrigan
Died on 9th December 1829, John Corrigan of Johnstown.
Died on 22nd October 1813, Matthew Corrigan of Dublin and was interred here.
Died 7th July 1813, Matthew Corrigan of Johnstown.
Died on 8th July 1808, Anne Corrigan alias Kennedy of Millinachinne.

Pallen/Partlan[d]
Died on 25th July 1829, Anne Partlon of Cunerstown.
Died on 22nd June 1826, Pat Partland of Cunnerstown.
Died 7th February 1823, James Partland of Cunnerstown.
Died on 2nd May 1821 Peggy Partland of Johnstown.
Died on 15th June 1807, Ann Parland alias Levy of Connerstown.
Died on 18th March 1805, Mary Parland of Hilltown.

Tithe Applotment Books

We examined the Tithe Applotment Index of Surnames for Co. Westmeath for the Civil Parishes of St. Feighin’s, St. Mary’s, Kilcunny and Kilpatrick, in order to identify to the Corrigan family’s landholding prior to their emigration. This search noted that at the time of the submission of the Tithe Applotment Books for the Civil Parishes of St. Feighin’s, St. Mary’s, Kilcunny and Kilpatrick, Co. Westmeath, there were no tithe payers in these parishes by the name of Corrigan.

The Tithe only applied to certain types of land and only to rural land holdings. It is possible that the Corrigan family did not qualify for the Tithe or that they had left the area by the time of the survey.

At this point we concluded our research.
